Hehe those comments were a little out there today. Still reading almost daily but not posting…bear market hibernation so to speak.

Some anecdotal evidence that nothing has changed:
My landlord has decided to sell the house I am living in. Just got a call from a Realtor today asking questions and aside from being rather miffed when I told him my lease wasn’t up for another 5 months, he explained that all I really needed to buy the house was a mere 3% down payment and maybe closing costs (don’t forget the big tax credit either!. I was very surprised to hear that you could still buy a house today for so little money down…it seems we still haven’t learned from the past. Also, the house is being sold for 30-40% less than the Zillow estimate from 2006.

Your landlord has not been paying the mortgage, and his time is coming. The mortgage holder does not want to admit the loan is trash. You are in the drivers seat. Offer them something that seems ridiculous to you. Something that is cheaper than you could rent for, and see where it goes.

Great advice String….I guess I need to go back and read the afternoon posts…all I saw was the sourdough bread talk. Too bad I swore off the market. :-)

Just get an account like Phil so you can trade the SCHX commission free. When Phil buys, you buy. Simple as that. Well, maybe not that simple, but it is close.

Keep in mind that if you buy cheap and things still go south, you will live there payment free for months and months.

I don’t think balance sheets mean anything. These days NOTHING can be trusted. Just like the other day when the FDIC announced they were selling loans from seized banks, and all the other banks that were partners on the loan squealed like pigs.

    String,

I read that one too. I got the impression FDIC was going ahead with it though. Did you see the figures in that article for what the loans were selling for after FDIC takes them over and sells them off – 40% of book for performing and 20% for non-performing? Yuck! If those are lies I don’t want to know the truth!

  9. Stringm says:

    Mitch

The FDIC came out today and made some kind of deal that the partner banks could buy the loans from the FDIC, but keep them on the books as marked. Seems like a house of cards. All I know is I have 10 acres and know how to grow food and cook. I ain’t cookin no skunk though. If someone will tell us how to cook the skunks in finance, and Warshington (as Tom Landry would say) I will be the first to light the fire.

  25. 2thfixr says:

String, I have schwab, but I can’t follow the market all day. I tried for about a month but my staff kept calling me at the WORST possible times so profitable trades turned into losses…my perception, so my attitude turned negative. Not a good place to trade from. So, since I see so much risk right now, time to back off and find another good entry point. Plus, my emotions/risk taking get in the way of making good trades.

For example: I purchased 10 SSO contracts during the “big hammer” Friday that reached 1044.50 on the S&P. However, since I purchased them in the 1050’s, and I have been burned before on “being wrong, aka, being early,” I sold them at a small loss. Needless to say, I was dead right, but my execution of the trade was way off. Until I can get that worked out, if ever, I’m gonna just pile up my money, because all I am doing is losing it without the benefit of using it. Now on the opposite side, because of that outcome, I’ve let some options run too long and they will expire worthless in a week. I can’t seem to get out of my own way….time to step back for a while and reassess. That’s all. thanks for asking and giving sound advice, can’t argue with it!

I did ramble a little yesterday. Phil got me pumped on TLT, and I am suffering from this head cold. I started sippin some Black Jack early afternoon yesterday to nurse my head, thus the ramblin. I took your title as very apropos for the day. There are a bunch of skunks on Wall Street that NEED to be trapped and cooked. We could start with Fuld, but that would only be a start. So many crooks where would we start. Mozillo is probably still tanning.
We need to get back to basics here in America. I read today that we are going to let the Chinese bid on our rapid rail projects. I hope they hire some Americans if they get it. Wont that be a hoot. We build the first railroad using China Men, now maybe they could build the next using us. I will do better on not ramblin next week. You have a class act going on here and I don’t plan on spoiling it.

Try this. On a daily chart set up these four Technical Indicators. Look at a chart of INTC. after you get it set up we can talk about what you see, and how you can use it without fighting your time schedule every day. If you like it, and make money you owe me a trip to Turf Paradise and all the beer I can drink. I’ll pay my own way to get there.

Make a 2 Day Moving Average using Red
Make a 6 Day Moving Average using Green

    Make a StocK 21,5,3 Red
    Make a StocD 21,5,3 Green

    Make a MACD 8,13,5 Red
Make a MACD Signal 8,13,5 Green

    Make a Directional Movement +DI 5,13 Red
Make a Directional Movement -DI 5,13 Green

Make the chart be four sections one for each indicator, and give each indicator the same space on the page.

If you want to do it, set up a chart and we can discuss what you see and what I see.

    Stringm,

I do a screen copy, put it in “Paint”, get tinypic website and upload it.

I’m working on an easier way but not there yet. I haven’t found any option in SD to do a copy or link.

  35. George says:

Any “paint” type software will work. Anything that works with pictures.

StockCharts has a link but I haven’t used it yet. The last time I used it, it didn’t work correctly.

  36. George says:

You should have MSPAINT on your system if you are using a PC with XP or above.

Thanks String, I’ll work on it tomorrow. Headed off to play tennis and just wanted to check e-mail and this blog before I left. What time frame are you talking about here? Daily or weekly holding periods?

  38. Stringm says:

    George

I can export a chart real easy out of SD. I will do one tomorrow. I didn’t know how to upload to tinypic. I will figure that out tomorrow.

    Tooth

I want you to set up a daily chart with these params. What we will talk about is using a Weekly chart as a trend chart, and the daily as an entry chart. Both will have the same TA settings.

I can drink a lot of beer watching the ponies run. Turf Paradise is a beautiful track. There must have been 1000 doves flying into the infield the week I was there in Nov. Sight to behold.

  39. George says:

    Stringm,

Hey, I did find how to export SD charts after you said you were able to do it. However, it only does one, it won’t copy the three on my screen.

I then saved it to my drive as xxx (it will add the suffix). Then crank up tinypic.com and click on “Browse”, find the “xxx” file, click on it then “Upload”.

  40. George says:

  53. Stringm says:

Now that I have looked retarded, still look at the chart I have posted. Look at the red crossing up the green lines. Look for them to all go close to the same time. Look at the crossings when StocK has been below 20. Do you see when you could have bought buttloads of INTC and held for 3 days and sold ITM call options?

    String

  54. George says:

    Stringm,

I’m going to plug those in when I get time and play with that. You’re on to something. I hadn’t thought of using DMI before because it has always confused me, but that chart paints a good picture.

BTW – The ciabatta was a big hit. My daughter and son-in-law were here and she ate more than she stand. I think I can do better next time. Like always I didn’t follow directions. I thought if it sat overnight it would rise to much and I woud be busting it down to take it out after 12 hours. So I put it on the stone before I went to bed. It spread out quite a bit, not up, but out. It still turned out great, and it was simple to make.

The Ciabatta is not supposed to rise. I left mine 18 hours then reworked it a bit this morning, left it for 2 more hours and then baked. I did half of it by adding herbs on top and it tasted good.

all thats left from mine are two tiny strips. 6 people devoured it and loved it :D

Oh and George, I boiled another egg today. mini pot 5 minutes till it started to boil. turned heat off and covered with foil. let it sit for 15 mins. emptied hot, a batch of cold water. emptied it too refilled. left for 5 mins and after peeling….. YUMMY YOLK! took me 3 tries but wow that was the best boiled egg i’ve had in years!

Such is the circle of life.

  81. admin says:

    K,

Well, I like the iPod, but I have learned how to change the battery just to spite Steve Jobs. A couple of iPods had to die on the operating table before I got the procedure down, but it was worth it. The innards are about as durable as tissue paper. When it is time to retire an old iPod, I smash it into little pieces with a hammer just to deliver a little backlash to Apple. It’s very gratifying.
