Thursday’s Trading – 12/17/09

Our drones don’t encrypt their video output? Who’s idea was that? If the enemy can simply receive your video, doesn’t that make it harder to sneak up on them? WSJ story here.

THAT SUCKS!! wow never knew it was that easy. you would think they are encrypted a bit like we see in the movies. I guess that is science fiction.

  2. Yerk says:

    oh well…

The poppy-farmer protection scheme so far did cost the German minister of defense, his deputy, and the chief of staff their jobs for incompetent popping of protected poppy-farmers. If they continue to mishandle the case the new minister of defense will be next one to pop. [Poppy production is receding a bit in 2009 as Afghanistan alone covers far more than 100% of world demand.]

Very interesting fizzle post, Matt. Dax consolidating above the 5850 breakout level which is bullish… es 1099 to watch.

    UUP at 23+ :D

    oops

  4. 2thfixr says:

Futures are looking weak. Hug an inverse today. Got shaken out of half my SDS yesterday on a stop at 1114.20. Can we get to 1060 by Friday?

  5. Mitch says:

    After,

Other than sugar, nat gas, and treasuries – prices are down. While that’s not an exhaustive list price may be trying to convey a message here. On the currency front, the pair with the most movement has been USD/AUD. I believe the pair has performed better than even the USD/EUR. AUD was .8888 a few minutes ago. CAD has proven stronger as well. Loonie suppresion could back fire in a big way if some pressure up is not accomodated with gentle USD nudges.

yep we’ll see 1.51 break out on strength for sure

  8. George says:

    Matt,

“The Fizzle Pattern” is very good analysis. I like your twists when looking at those.

    What a drone story.

  9. Yerk says:

5850 held so far, 1096 seems to be the corresponding es level. Next gap to be closed

  10. Mark says:

Matt – To go with your fizzle pattern. I see the XLF making an H&S pattern since the beginning of August with a 13.80 neckline. Something else to keep in mind as we watch the XLF. And I agree, I think financials will lead us down just as they lead us up. Added more to my position last night.

  11. George says:

When/if SPY gets to the bottom of the rectangle, that will be a good place to wait for a long.

  12. George says:

Daily gap down on SPY and a gap up on SKF. Still in gapology mode.

  13. Mitch says:

    George,

Since Matt opened up today’s round with military talk; I’m no formations expert but the rear guard in the currency market seem to be a bunch of pansies. There’s another formation – envelope – that Von Schifflin narrowly missed pulling off . . . . could that be in play?

  14. Stringm says:

    Matt

I will take the other side of this drone thing. I really can’t believe that our military or it’s contractors are that inept. After all they captured the guy with the video. Perhaps they were intercepted, but it wasn’t really where the drone was. It might have been a decoy. At least that is what I want to believe.

    String

  15. George says:

    Mitch,

This may be a flanking move. The rear echelon is moving up since more ground has been taken – that’s always a good sign of the battle being won.

  16. George says:

May be an early gap fill. SPY up against 15min 9MA. Next objective: 5min 36MA.

    The war is on!

  17. George says:

SRS resting on its 15min 36MA support. Waiting on a setup to see if it bounces. URE had a nice counter.

  18. George says:

Here’s an updated 60min SPY chart with the trendlines and rectangle. Note how the previous two down gaps took price almost to the bottom of the box.

want a financial you can short?
    How about CIT?
i mean sure they restructured but so did FAZ reverse split at one time. LOL

just saying at $26 currently they can head down to 2.60 again no?

  21. 2thfixr says:

George, what do you make of the line you have drawn at the bottom (low trendline–I’m using a different one) being at the bottom of the rectangle. Won’t a break below that be a double whammy?!? Break the low trendline AND break the rectangle. It doesn’t look like you can reach 1086 without breaking that trendline. Just sayin’, watch out bulls if that is the case. But, I’d like to see it…cover my SDS, and watch a nice climax top form!

  22. 2thfixr says:

Off topic, but what are people thinking when they deliver sugary sweets to the dentist office to thank them???? We’re giving away the goodies to our patients (job security!)…I’d be on a sugar high for a month (and fat) if I tried to eat it all!

  23. George says:

    2thfixr,

Certainly would be a double whammy. With the gap down, I’m not expecting it to make it that far.

With respect to the sweets: They’re dumming up buisness for you!

…look a gift horse in the mouth. :)

  24. George says:

    S/B “drumming”

I mean it was expected to have support but jesus!!!

  28. K says:

futures have one last hope at 1092.25 at S3

    cuttently at 1094.25

so 4 more points drop and if it goes any lower well good luck!

  29. George says:

    K,

I’m huggin’ all the inverse… SRS WHOOPIE!

  30. George says:

SRS nearing tops. URE next up for a counter of some type.

  31. George says:

Speaking on tops, almost all of the inverse have tops intraday.

    Look out.

  32. George says:

Today is what I was expecting Tuesday.

  33. K says:

    George,
how about that. I know you dont look at futures but i said we’re dropping another 4 points to 1090.25

it just made a low of 1091 :P
looks like we got 3.25 points down out of the expected 4 i wanted.

    just sayin,
A daytrader of mine told me to watch out for BUCY and VMW for a possible bounce for a quick scalp. VMW he claimed went down hard on no volume.

As always sticking with invesrses might be more fun :D

  34. George says:

Daily gap on SPY filled… the gap up it made on the 10th.

  35. George says:

Now there is the gap down SPY made today and the one in November ~$107.50.

Luv them gaps. Like target shooting.

  36. K says:

Get ready for a bounce here possibly 4-6 points lol
    if not cut loss short.

  37. K says:

dzz doesnt wanna stay up. got near R3 lol

amazing thing is it has S1 on TOP of the pivot point.

pivot point is at 13.40 so if we drop 30 cents i’ma bail for now

I wonder what’s up next for this little bugger? Higher highs are always a good thing but some correction is necessary.

  40. George says:

My magic little 5min indicator sez could be more uppage for SPY.

  41. K says:

Well I just saw a real spider walk across my monitor, the one with the charts. I am wondering if it means good luck? let me check.

Nope! crap looks like the resistance is about to break. Damn spider!

I googled it and people say killing a spider during the day is bad luck. Looks like I just started the next 2 hour rally then!

  42. George says:

Will the inverse catch a bid here and continue up? Turning point for sure.

  43. George says:

    K,

Maybe it meant for you to buy SPY!

  44. K says:

Ok George I’ll bite. I’ll buy some OEF instead.

  45. K says:

Wait… if i killed it shouldnt that mean I should get short?

i took an OEF position with a stop loss below today’s low though. :D

    Come on spider! Wake up!!!!

  46. K says:

    btw on the drone issue..

“the Predator unmanned aerial vehicles do not use encryption in the final link to their operators on the ground.”

seems like encryption all the way except the last step

  47. K says:

as soon as I discarded the Spider this thing tanked?

    wow coincidence or reality? :P

    ok break time till tomorrow

  48. 2thfixr says:

welcome to my trading world K—just when you get stopped out or sell, off it goes! :-)

Your joke was gunny George. Look a gift horse in the mouth….haha

  53. Yerk says:

Support around 1070-80, resistance 1125. bias up, but not much conviction.

  54. K says:

    Bias Up I agree.

On Monday, Bank of America closed flat for the day at $15.63.

…And then today, BAC sank 2.75% to $14.86 a share.

Of course, anyone will look like a fool if they try to predict or trade on day to day movements, and he doesn’t advocate doing that.

Jim, UNG is out of the BB on the top side. Looks like a wave 1 top was reached today based upon volume and price action. Look for a corrective wave, and then time to jump in with both feet to grab the wave 3 ride up after that! Still a nice call on the bottom, you’ve made some great money (%-wise).

  64. 2thfixr says:

George, here is my updated UUP chart. Notice, wave 4 hit inside the circle. Now, wave 5 can begin and do a nice head fake outside the rectangle to final highs! Then it’ll be time to hug an inverse to stay warm all winter and well into the hot Phoenix summer!
