Thursday’s Trading – 9/17/09

The IWM sliced right through the bulk of its October 6th gap in a very impressive show of strength on Wednesday. Nevertheless, the resistance should be strongest near the top of the gap at 62.03. That’s only 23 cents away from where the IWM closed on Wednesday, and it would be very unusual for it to just sail right through the gap without a struggle. The market should stall, at least for a bit, in this area. But who knows? This is the least logical rally in history.

  2. K says:

i give up. one bad trade and I am in make up losses mood. (loss wasnt too big but my mentality is bad. I even want to get gld now and i know it’s too high :P

  3. phil says:

GEORGE…maybe UYG can hit 7 bucks today

  4. George says:

ICE is playing nice but BBT hasn’t yet.

  5. George says:

    phil,

You may have something there. The market sure is strong.

  6. George says:

Maybe that last move was running the shorts out. Now for the other side. :)

  7. phil says:

GEORGE….i am looking for any downside to add to longs

  8. George says:

Well, if that was capitulation, it wasn’t very impressive. So it has to be a short squeeze.

  9. George says:

BBT 15min at 36MA support. I was hoping it would get to $30 today. Maybe later.

  10. Jim says:

George: Did you buy SRS yet?

  11. George says:

That SPY high today at 108.06 filled that itty-bitty gap at the upside. I don’t know if that means it continues up but it has backed off from there.

  12. phil says:

GEORGE ..i am going to sell some UYG into the next surge

  13. George says:

    Jim,

    No SRS yet.

  14. phil says:

BBT has at least one more surge left in it

  15. phil says:

george…think SRS will get back to the $ 295 high?

  16. George says:

    Jim,

SRS could certainly be scalped on the 1 and 5min. What I’m doing with it is using a 9/36/15 MA crossover. I’m doing that because I don’t have enough time to scalp it with all the others I’m watching.

At its low price, there will be a lot of buyers when the time comes.

  17. George says:

    phil,

Gosh, I don’t know where these things are going. But with all the extremes we’re going to probably encounter, I wouldn’t count the $200′s out for any of these high-flyers.

    We can only hope.

  18. phil says:

above as i suggested yesterday…….dollar low imminent

  19. phil says:

GEORGE ….there could be a violent downside correction soon for stocks once the dollar turns….

  20. phil says:

MITCH…..TLT 96.82 is my sell point…i have abandoned hope for 98

  21. Mitch says:

    phil:

I just got out of TLT at 96.08. Also out of one of my specs.

  22. George says:

    phil,

Since you sent that link, I got me a UUP screen.

  23. George says:

Well Jim, now you got me scalping SRS. Ha, low price is irresistable.

  24. George says:

This is the 10th day in a row of higher highs for SPY. Dirty dozen coming up?

  25. Jim says:

The S&P has made higher highs for 10 days in a row. Anyone know what the record is?

  26. George says:

Soon I’ll fill all of my screens with inverse.

Which reminds me, the heat from my monitors killed a plant I had on the desk. Also melted my M&Ms.

  27. phil says:

BBT surge and uyg coming…i am selling into it

  28. George says:

Jim, I don’t but it made about 14 a few weeks ago.

  29. George says:

    phil,

I may sell my BBT also when price hits 5min 36MA unless it dumps me earlier.

  30. George says:

    Nearing tops /bottoms.

  31. George says:

BBT dumped me for a .10c scalp. Good enough for 2 dinners at McCormick and Schmick.

  32. Stringm says:

    Peanut M&Ms, right George?

    String

  33. phil says:

    sold uyg

  34. George says:

    Stringm,

You got that right! Backup peanuts more important than backing up PC.

    Let’s get some inverse.

  35. Stringm says:

    George

The inverse seems logical at this point, but geez logic doesn’t seem to work with this market.

    String

  36. K says:

I have decided to pull a dressguard.
Taking a break from real trading at this very crucial breaking point (it’s near and I know it)

sold off all positions gonna paper trade again :P

  37. phil says:

K…….now that you have thrown in the towel i will have to go SHORT

  38. K says:

wow look at that reaction after K decides to pull the plug.
i’ll wait till I put the plug back on :D

  39. George says:

    K,

    I submit… GOOD CALL… so far. :)

  40. George says:

Jim, tks for getting me into SRS. Cash Cow = MOOooo

  41. George says:

We’ll see if short-covering is alive and well here.

  42. K says:

well if K is back in phil aint shorting so he’ll cover. hmm what do I want to do?

  43. K says:

    tick is certainly not healthy

  44. phil says:

K…i was just going to post that 1078 is wave c=.618 wave a….and a sharp correction could be seen….this may be it…..i still favor 1123 where wave c=a

  45. K says:

well you just wanted me out thats all
I did get SRS oct 9 calls dirt cheap though. ;) ))))))))))))))))))))))))

  46. K says:

I will no longer yell out my trades cause someone here is playing against me. had to cover.

  47. George says:

SPY 15min nearing its 36MA support.

  48. George says:

    K,

    We want more secret charts!

  49. K says:

SPY is dead and so is tick
so what this market needed is the last bear (K) to throw in the towel?

    fkin sweet!

  50. K says:

    George,
you love how that secret chart is working so far huh? :P

  51. K says:

YIKES the most congested area i’ve seen to date

  52. K says:

ok so here are some supports for SPX (note these are not the Pivots i roll out sometimes)

1065 (it’s near here right now and maybe breaking)
    1059
    1054
    1047
    1041
    1034

  53. junglegirl says:

UUP just poked above its downchannel of the last 2.5 days. Candle not yet closed.

  54. phil says:

    BOUGHT…….SSO

  55. Mitch says:

    phil:

    That should be interesting.

  56. phil says:

    mitch…what?

  57. Mitch says:

    phil:

    The SSO play.

  58. phil says:

mitch…either the correction is already over and we will reach 1078 or it is only the a wave dow of abc correction……still looking for 1123 SPX

  59. phil says:

    DOWN…..not dow

  60. phil says:

junglegirl…did you see my posts from yest and 10:52 today?

  61. Stringm says:

    Lowest TICK of the day.

  62. K says:

1059.61 is next for spx after is closes below 1065 for this hour

  63. junglegirl says:

    phil,

I did see the chart you posted today. Which post(s) from yesterday?

To the board, my comment about hank’s statement long ago about conceding at 1500… for clarification, I don’t believe we are going there. I was just thinking about his sentiment during a bear rally when he was holding shorts. Didn’t want to inadvertently confuse anyone.

  64. K says:

    1059 in futures is crucial.

Well 1057 got hit and now bounced back to 1059 in /ES futures…
1057 cannot be broken or else well… let’s just leave it at that

  65. K says:

1063 will be major resistance for futures now though so yeah… Wall above.. thin cardboard floor below

junglegirl………..daily UUP candle looks like a hammer…plus heavy bearish sentiment on dollar .. DSI 4% bulls.. means we are probably close to a dollar turn but not there yet….situation looks similar to march low in stocks

    phil Says:

    September 16th, 2009 at 4:37 pm
junglegirl…..my schwab uup daily shows a hammer but a dollar dec future shows red candle closing at lows….rest of my post is ok

    JUNGLEGIRL>>>>>from yest

  67. George says:

Maybe the inverse can overcome the Humpty-Dumbty syndrome and get past the 15min 36MA and hold.

  68. K says:

futures took out some stops and now don’t know which way to go (Spinning top anyone? ) :P

  69. junglegirl says:

Three Amigos buy signal on inverse and UUP as we were breaking up out of the UUP channel. Now we are at 9/36/15 kiss on the UUP, and SPX looks about ready for a 9/36/15 cross to the downside. We shall see.

  70. junglegirl says:

SPX 60 min Three Amigas Sell Signal.

  71. K says:

JG it’s time for $ to go UUP!!!!!!!!

  72. junglegirl says:

K, here here my friend. Let’s see if this one sticks for a bit.

  73. phil says:

MITCH…..i want to sell my TLT into the next surge

  74. George says:

Inverse, like SRS, doing a backtest on that 15min crossover. Should go up from here.

  75. George says:

Should say, should go up after the test.

  76. phil says:

    SOLD ……TLT @ 96.59……close enough

  77. Jayme says:

Looking for any reference to your “box” fib analysis. How did you determine SP500 = 1014 is the bottom for your box of bulls I saw this was derived from a box of march, although it still does not tell me how you got to this number? THe bottom is 666 or 667 in march?

    Thanks…

  78. K says:

does that mean you think we got further down to go phil?

  79. phil says:

K…..no .. i think we rally so i want out of tlt

  80. phil says:

K…remember the big picture…….new lows in tlt…..new highs in spx above 1600

  81. K says:

    George,
looks like SRS didnt really want to bounce huh?

  82. George says:

    K,

SRS isn’t through yet. One more candle down and it will be a bad test.

it’s hanging on the ceiling like spiderman. (1063 at the moment)

  84. George says:

SPY got a 15min stochastic upturn that’s leading the way. It will need to reverse course soon or my trendline above is going to be hit.

  85. Mitch says:

    TLT hitting intraday highs.

  86. Yerk says:

junglegirl, thanks for the clarification, one phil is enough ;-)

upmove to gain speed as dax retested break upward out of ascending triangle twice today. Next resistance level 1125 after some haggling around 1070, unlikely switch to bearish mode ~1025.

Re least logical liquidity qe-rally from Rosenberg: “It’s about how much good news is already being discounted in the equity market, and believe it or not, there is more good news being priced in today than there was bad news being discounted back at the March lows.”

    Larry, this one’s for you… http://www.zerohedge.com/article/albert-edwards-global-credit-crunch-not-receding-it-intensifying

  87. phil says:

decline and rally today both look corrective….probable wave 4 action…ie at least one more new high coming

  88. George says:

I should have took home some BBT.

  89. phil says:

YERK……..what do you mean……one phil is enough?

  90. K says:

he means One bull is enough ;)

  91. George says:

    phil,

I can see how that may be true the way SPY is acting. Most likely gap up tomorrow.

Hey phil, Kenny joined you in camp 1600.

K – did you read my last post? nothing bearish to see right so far even with a larger retracement. I’m teasing phil on the target. phil loves to be teased :-)

  93. Yerk says:

and as I’ve posted some days back my understanding is we currently have the situation that investment funds are flooding over traders and HFs games. Most of the info I get is biased to the latter group, eg likely to be too bearish, although that is changing. Overshoot, then collapse. See the last link above.

Crazy stuff happening like the Irish gone mad with their banks but the pendulum needs time. It will come back.

  94. Mitch says:

    Yerk:

That Irish CB move was like an “all in” kind of move. They ring fenced their banks. Also, BCS leant a friendly unit 12b to “buy” a bunch of MBS and work it off over time. I kind of dig independent sovereign solutions.

  95. phil says:

YERK….i saw spx 1600 from kenny but i took it as sarcasm not his real opinion

  96. Yerk says:

Now you are discrediting your allies… I’ll join your camp above 1150 and – as I posted earlier – buy you a beer when we reach 1600. Now Matt is calling this box of beers which makes me nervous…
