Tuesday’s Trading – 2/2/10

Progress, Shmogress
Twenty-five years ago, I had a Toyota with an accelerator pedal that would stick to the floor. Today, Toyota makes cars with the same problem. I know that the Japanese are getting senile, but what was their excuse in 1984?

And let me tell you…it’s quite a surprise to not have your accelerator come back up. I would shift into neutral, and before the engine revved past the red line and blew up, I would shut the ignition off and coast over to the shoulder.

Note: most of you won’t know what a “red line” is because you have never seen a tachometer. And that’s because of Starbucks. Modern latte-sipping drivers can’t spare a hand for a shifter, so manual transmission are a thing of the past. I have even met valets who park cars for a living who were embarrassed because they could barely drive my car.

In summary, don’t buy anything made in Japan, which has become a nation of Alzheimer’s patients. And profit from their misfortune by shorting the Nikkei.

How funny… Starbucks required an automatic transmission to be created. :)

Truth is, you have to pay more for a manual shifter nowadays: back in the day, automatic cost more.

    Sign of the times.

  2. George says:

Today will be a market zig-zag, choppy, spikey and not as smooth as a cup of java from Starbucks. Actually, I’ve never liked their coffee. Could be the $3 a cup I don’t like!

  3. George says:

Link to the new MOO/DOO chart. I’ve changed it to a 5min.

I’m getting ready to buy an ’04 camry.

  6. George says:

    2thfixr,

Is that A-B-C you mentioned on the daily?

  7. George says:

SPY broke through its upper trendline resistance on the 5min, now it is testing it by backing off. Now resting on that line.

  8. bob says:

hey admin what car did you have that caused
“Twenty-five years ago, I had a Toyota with an accelerator pedal that would stick to the floor. Today, Toyota makes cars with the same problem. I know that the Japanese are getting senile, but what was their excuse in 1984?”
corolla? celica? supra?, cressida? one of the “c” cars?

  9. admin says:

    Bob,

If memory serves, it was a 1984 Corolla SR5.

    Matt

  10. George says:

    This completes 2thfixr’s “A”? “B” down, “C” up?

The Fib 50% would be the top of “C”.

  11. George says:

I never worry about my pedal sticking, I keep it on the floor anyway. :)

  12. 2thfixr says:

George, glad I checked. NO, this is an up, down, up move (a-b-c) within the B (or 2) wave. Look at 15 min chart to find it. 1097 *could* be the end of a, down to make a neckline over the next day or two at 1080ish would be the b, up to 1115 would be the c. Longer time frame than you normally deal with.

  13. 'K says:

As of Feb. 3 Fidelity, one of the country’s largest online brokerages, will charge $7.95 per trade for U.S. equities, down from a previous tiered fee structure of $8 to $19.95 per trade, executives said. And 25 ETF’s will have no commission at all!!! Ima go back in it with a few K’s

  14. George says:

    2thfixr,

Thanks. I go with the longer time frames too at times, mainly the 15min.

  15. George says:

Woah, broker war, K – ’bout time.

  16. 2thfixr says:

George, check out the blog from a few days ago when there were 3 comments about computers among us. The last comment has some info you need to get that drive. :-)

  17. Larry says:

Randall, I see that WSJ and Economist have covered the situation in NK 2-3 weeks ago. Nothing to see here. Move on :)

And I am stuck with some Gold.

  18. Yerk says:

lol – reminds me of the Audi transmissions. Killed the brand in the US for quite some time.

1100-1105 obvious barrier, then 1125-30. Trend down.

  19. George says:

    2thfixr,

    I sent you my address.

  20. George says:

    2thfixr,

    I missed that post. Duh.

    K,

I’ll send you my address too in the event you have a drive you want to sell.

I’ll buy them from you and pay shipping because that is only fair.

  21. paula says:

Grandfather bought a 1986 Toyota Corolla.
Gave it to me when he went to Australia.
Nothing sticks. It runs great. I get 40 MPG
    driving around town.

  22. George says:

This rally will need to last several days to get to “MOO”. That will be 2thfixr’s “C”.

  23. Sam says:

market feels very fickle .. as George said “Today will be a market zig-zag, choppy, spikey and not as smooth as a cup of java from Starbucks. ” ..

i wonder if you used an indicator for predicting that ?

  24. Scotty says:

2thfixr,we blew thru 1097,still looking for pullback 1080-1085 before a final move to 1100-1120

  25. George says:

    Sam,

Yes, it’s the Wiffledust Indicator. It will make either a variegated or pancake market. Stir frequently.

  26. 2thfixr says:

George, thanks for the address, haven’t checked e-mail yet, but will when I get home.

Up will be a “c”, not a “C” wave. this “C” wave is going to be down from 1115 adn be a dilly….brinks trucks for everyone!

  27. 2thfixr says:

because is will be a “c” of “B.” where B is an upwave. A and C will be down.

  28. Sam says:

ha ha i like the name

.. short here on XLE (pl don’t ask why!)

  29. George says:

If this is wave “A”, I can’t wait until wave “C” comes along.

  30. Sam says:

Does this up wave seem too steep to anyone else?

  31. 'K says:

Nop the wave is perfect. Make sure you have the proper surfboard and you should ride it. :)

    Triple triplet coming up?

  32. Sam says:

He he .. you do appear to know stuff so I’ll take your word .. was looking at stockcharts.com spx daily

  33. George says:

This surfing is great. I like it when the waves are up. I’ll wax my board. Hope I don’t get “surfer’s knots” on my knees.

  34. George says:

If these Fib waves are on the 15min, that means we could possibly have red streaks today or tomorrow.

  35. admin says:

The market is doing better than I thought it would, and is above the neckline that I drew on my chart last night. Maybe it will make the neckline at the level that Yerk mentioned. A direct hit on the January 26th high would be 1103.68.

If so, then the projection for the H&S would have to be raised to 1135.

  36. admin says:

    K,

If you drive a Camry, it will be harder to date fashion-conscious girls.

    Matt

  37. Jim2 says:

Tres Crusars on the SDS 15min?

  38. 'K says:

I would care less matt, there’s quite a good number of girls that are after me without having a car at all :)

Its a commuter city so any wheels are better than none and I love camry reliability.

Its a replacement for my ’97 camry which is begining to rust. I no longer like the color white either. Silver is better.

I hope to surf with yall the last hr

  39. 2thfixr says:

yup, SDS looks that way…will it hold?

  40. 2thfixr says:

rejected by the 5-min 36 MA….c’mon baby, cycle back and break through. ;-)

  41. 'K says:

I knew the waves would get fun once I arrived at my trading desk

  42. George says:

SPY 15min stochastic and MACD negative. However it is trying to bounce off its 5min 36MA.

  43. Yerk says:

Me thinks we get a retracement tom, dax couldn’t break through the 1100 equivalent AH either. Those surfers can count better.

  44. K says:

    TRIPLE TRIPLET FOR THE CLOSE!!!

    HAHA!

  45. George says:

    K,

When you’re right, you’re right! What can I say?

  46. K says:

Just when it looked like Greece debacle might be over, in comes 40 billion euros in hidden debt. A relatively unknown German website called Kathimerini.gr has posted the following, which has been translated thanks to Zerohedge:

  47. George says:

Great bounce SPY made on that 5min setup. Time to flop over now so there will be inverse to hug.

    Load ‘em up.

  48. Stringm says:

    Yerk

I vote for your retrace. I chose the QID for a rebound tomorrow. Of course it is a hedge cuz I am long some divy payers. Phil didn’t give any bond advice today. I am collecting some 10 years per his speculation. How does one here in the states buy some of those German bunds?

    String

  49. George says:

    Stringm,

Good idea to hedge those dividend stocks. Are the dividends any good nowadays?

  50. 2thfixr says:

    string….”very carefully” is the answer…. :-)

George, glad to see you are on the inverse bandwagon. Most EWT sites are calling for 1080 to 1085, but could end higher. Keep the antennae up and look for the turn about there. That would be wave b of B, with the up wave c of B blowing through 1105 to 1115-1129. Of course, this could be just like July and we could keep right on going up, up, up from this slight pullback, but most of us aren’t counting on that (which means, it could happen!). Once B finishes, Paula, JG, Phil, etc… will get a big down move to 1030 area and be very happy.

  51. Stringm says:
